Private Lessons with Ledama T.
Ledama T.
Ledama was born in Kenya and grew up in Ithaca, NY, where his musical journey began. His mom signed him up for piano lessons in the Suzuki method, where he studied classical piano for 8 years under the direction of Kiki Barley. Upon entering middle school, Ledama decided to begin learning the trumpet and never looked back.
Ledama moved to Oak Park, IL, a suburb of Chicago, before his junior year of high school and started college at DePaul University in the Jazz Studies program under the tutelage of Bob Lark (jazz trumpet) and Ross Beacraft (classical trumpet). After leaving Chicago, he made his way to Alabama where he played with many bands, including “FisherGreen,” a Southern Rock band, “Bonus Round,” a Birmingham area cover band, as well as performing with the Night Flight Big Band, under the direction of Mart Avant and Ona Watson. Ledama spent many years as a performer in the Southeast, mostly as a freelance artist, but was a featured soloist with The University of Alabama Trumpet Ensemble at the International Trumpet Guild Festival and performed in the pit orchestra for many musicals.
Ledama moved to Colorado after earning his Master of Arts in Instrumental Music Education at the University of Alabama to be in a more diverse area, with a genuine appreciation for arts education. He has spent time as a band director, general music teacher, performer, producer, composer, and arranger, and has always had a desire to spread his passion for music to younger generations. In addition to his MA in Education, Ledama also holds a master’s degree in jazz arranging and a bachelor’s degree in music technology, two areas he hopes to incorporate into his teaching. In his free time, Ledama enjoys playing and hiking with his dog, R2, cooking and BBQ’ing, camping and other outdoor adventures, online gaming, gardening, and learning about technology.
Ledama goes to great strides to get to know his students on a deeper level and can often be heard sharing stories and talking about things totally unrelated to music, especially when the student seems genuinely interested in sharing.
